Hakea Laurina

I must have planted this hakea laurina with a group of quick growing acacia boormanii
back in April 2005, and didn't give the poor thing another thought until I noticed what
looked like a strange flower to be growing on an acacia!

A bit of pruning back of the boormanii and all was revealed.
The hakea had done very well, with no help from me and offered these lovely sea urchin type of flowers
which continued to flower for several weeks.

As you can see from this not very good photo, each stage of the opening of the flowers
has its own special quality
