Duckpond House Concert No. 54
David Francey
30 March 2025

It's been ten long years since David Francey, one of
Canada's most revered folk poets and singers, last toured
Australia and played at The Duckpond, So, when Jonni heard
that David was returning, he was quick to book him
for a return visit.

Just as the last time, David was accompanied by two
excellent musicians. This time it was Canadian Chris Murphy
on guitar and Aussi Jenny Thomas on fiddle. Chris is a
highly regarded singer-songwriter in his own right back home.

Jenny Thomas is a wonderful fiddler and normally a
member of post-modern bush band Bush Gothic.
Both Chris and Jenny also provided excellent backing vocals for David.

A wonderful storyteller and superb singer-songwriter, David delighted the audience
with numerous astute observations and anecdotes as well as his open hearted singing.

A self confessed three cord guitarist, David usually sticks
to just singing, but he did strap on the bouzouki for one song
,
so this is quite a rare photo.

As befitting a singer-songwriter who has had a long career during which he has released
thirteen albums, David treated those of us who are fans to a mixture of familiar favourites
and wonderful new heart-felt songs. Many of those in the audience were seeing him
for the first time and instantly became fans. All in all, a wonderful Sunday afternoon concert.

aa
My two grand-daughters, Joni and Erin, had sung a song
at David's previous visit, much to his delight.
So, they were happy to catch up with one another after ten years.
