2006 - My Poor Pond

I was given a 'miniature waterlily' plant by a friend and planted it in a pot,
weighted down with stones. It wasn't long before the first flowers appeared
and it was obvious that this was no normal waterlily!

The plant did indeed have leaves like a small waterlily..............

but I have no idea what it is............

In just one season this plant has completely taken over the pond and
I'm desperate for advice as to how I can rid myself of this frightningly rampant plant.

Note:This plant was identified for me as Heracleys Nymphoides (water poppy).
I'm horrified to find that it is still offered for sale at nurseries as a water plant.

I would hate to think what this plant would do if it escaped into our waterways!
